The Battle of Britain – Tactical Level Air Combat Tabletop Game for Two or More Players, a fantastic new collaboration between Warlord Games and Airfix, combines the fantastically fluid Blood Red Skies gameplay with the exceptional 1:72 aircraft of the venerable model manufacturers. Written by Andy Chambers, Blood Red Skies is a tabletop miniatures game where players take command of a force of fighter aircraft in battle.

The emphasis in Blood Red Skies is on action, and the game is fast-paced, with no pre-plotting or book-keeping required. A game of Blood Red Skies with two planes per side can be fought in twenty minutes or less. The Airfix Presents Blood Red Skies box set comes complete with everything players need to get started, including four aircraft: two Supermarine Spitfire Mk IIs and two Messerschmitt Bf109-Es, all in 1:72 scale.

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa was possibly the most iconic fighter of the Second World War, along with the Hurricane, and was instrumental to the RAF's victory in the Battle of Britain in 1940. Britain would go on to build more Spitfires than any other aircraft type during the war, constantly improving its armament and engine.

The Messerschmitt BF-109 'Emil' was the Luftwaffe's premier single-engine fighter at the outbreak of WWII. This powerful Luftwaffe fighter ran wild over Poland, the Low Countries, and France, devastating its opponents. Throughout the war, the Bf-109 constantly improved its aerodynamics, weapon systems, and engines to keep up with Allied fighter development.

Airfix and Warlord Games have teamed up to present the larger-scale dogfights in Blood Red Skies, allowing players to crossover from modeling into tabletop gaming. The construction and painting of the models, as well as watching them come to life, are just as much fun as the game itself. The contents of the box set include 4 unpainted plastic model kits (2 Spitfires & 2 Messerschmitts), which need to be built before the game can be played. Paints, glue, and brushes need to be purchased separately to complete the construction of the kits.

In Blood Red Skies, players can repeat history and take command of a force of fighter aircraft in battle. Each aircraft comes with a Traits card describing its firepower, agility, and speed.

Players can fly up the ranks from Rookie to Ace fighter pilot by shooting down as many planes as possible. The rulebook offers different scenarios, with each turn consisting of maneuvers, shooting, and advantage selection. The question is, do you have what it takes to become an Ace?
