At the outbreak of WWII, the Royal Air Force had over 500 Hawker Hurricanes in their squadrons. Even though the Hawker Hurricane may not have had the same speed or maneuverability as the Spitfire, its manufacturing and repair processes were quick and easy. Over the course of production, more than 14,000 Hawker Hurricanes were built. Despite being heavier and slower than most of its counterparts, the Hawker Hurricane's reliability in ground attack missions and its ability to serve in a beneficial role, especially at night, made it an invaluable asset to the Royal Air Force.
Airfix, the oldest UK manufacturer of scale model plastic kits, has been producing kits for the mass market since 1952. Airfix offers a wide range of kits for all types of scale modelers, including military aircraft, ships, space, cars, dioramas, and military vehicles. The boxes feature original paintings by an impressive range of artists, and the majority of the tools used to create these Vintage Classics still exist.
This Hawker Hurricane Mk.I plastic model kit features two primary schemes: one flown by Flt. Lt. Ian Richard (Widge) Gleed of No 87 Squadron, Royal Air Force Exeter, Devon, England in August 1940, and another flown by Sqn. Ldr. Peter Townsend, Commanding Officer of No 85 Squadron, Royal Air Force Church Fenton, North Yorkshire, England in October 1940.
The kit is recommended for intermediate to experienced modelers, with a skill level of 3. The completed model kit measures 40.9 cm in length, 50.7 cm in width, and 11.4 cm in height, and consists of 161 pieces. Painting and assembly are required, and Humbrol paints needed to complete the liveries are listed on the outside of the box. Paints and glue must be purchased separately.
Enjoy the nostalgia of this classic plastic model kit and the revival of the Hawker Hurricane, an aircraft that played a significant role in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.
