Airfix A05138 North American P51-D Mustang (Filletless Tails), Assorted

The P-51D Mustang, a renowned thoroughbred fighting airplane, was produced in greater numbers than any other variant, introducing several improvements over earlier models. Featuring a new wing design, teardrop canopy, and lower rear fuselage, the P-51D became the mount of many USAAF aces and the primary US fighter in the European Theatre, following its introduction in mid-1944.

The 1:48 scale allows modelers to add intricate details that are absent from smaller scales, enhancing the overall experience. Two distinct schemes are presented in this model kit:

1. North American P-51D-5-NA Mustang 'Lou IV', flown by Colonel Thomas Jonathan Jackson Christian Jr. of the 375th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group, 8th Air Force, United States Air Force Station F-374 (RAF Bottisham), Cambridge, England, in July 1944.

2. North American P-51D-5-NA Mustang, flown by Major George Earl Preddy Jr. of the 328th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group, United States Air Force, RAF Bodney, Norfolk, England, on August 6th, 1944.

The kit is rated as a Skill Level 2, with completed dimensions of 205mm in length and 236mm in width, consisting of 139 pieces.

Painting and assembly are required, and paints and glue must be purchased separately. The Humbrol paints needed to complete the plane's liveries are listed on the outside of the box.
